Imagine working for the same business for 35 years! Steve Prentice, General Manager of our Orontide Engineering Services South West operations knows what it’s like, achieving an impressive career milestone of 35 years of service in April 2022.
Steve has made an impressive contribution to our business over the years managing one of our most successful divisions and building a strong and respected presence in the South West of WA. Commencing with Wovodich Engineering in the purchasing team, Steve moved through the ranks to take on the role of General Manager of our Engineering Services division in Bunbury in 1992.
In his 35 year career with Orontide, Steve has seen our business in the South West go from strength to strength, growing and expanding from one small workshop with 12 employees to three large workshops and over 50 employees operating today. Steve is an important and proactive member of the Orontide Senior Management Team and regularly acts as a sounding board for our CEO and other members of the management team on important issues.
As he reflects on this achievement he acknowledges the team that have been a big part of his journey. “Many young apprentices have started their careers with us and I have enjoyed watching them build their skills and confidence with us as they grow into adults with their own families and successful careers. Many of these people are still with us and have progressed to more senior roles within our business,” he says.
Steve himself has been an instrumental part of this success. His depth of expertise and knowledge has seen him manage and deliver many projects for clients across major industry sectors including Minerals Processing, Mining and Oil and Gas.
“You never stop learning. We have significantly improved our focus on safety and the wellbeing of our employees compared to when I started out. We’ve certainly come a long way!” he says.
